Binary packages

On Debian and derivate distributions you can use the Marillat repository:

echo 'deb http://www.debian-multimedia.org unstable main' >> /etc/apt/sources.list
apt-get update
apt-get install mplayer kplayer libdvdcss w32codecs

Compiling from source tarball or CVS
------------------------------------

Extract the tarball

  tar xjf kplayer-0.7.tar.bz2
  cd kplayer-0.7

Or download code from CVS

  cvs -d:pserver:anonymous@kplayer.cvs.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/kplayer login
  cvs -z3 -d:pserver:anonymous@kplayer.cvs.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/kplayer co -P kplayer
  cd kplayer

Create Makefiles

  cmake .

notice the dot after cmake. You can give cmake a few options like

  cmake -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=/usr -DCMAKE_BUILD_TYPE=release .

where /usr is your KDE root directory that you can find by running
kde-config --prefix
and release is the build type, the other options being relwithdebinfo,
debug, debugfull and profile, relwithdebinfo being the default.

Compile

  make

Install

  su -c 'make install'

Run

  kplayer
